Dare 26
Refuse the Inner Narrative
Most of our suffering doesn’t come from what actually happened.
It comes from the story we told ourselves about it.
The look.
The tone.
The silence.
The delay.
The correction.
And before we even realize it, a narrative forms.
“They don’t respect me.”
“I’m not valued.”
“I always get overlooked.”
“They meant that as an insult.”
“This proves what I already feared.”
But here’s the truth:
Not every thought deserves agreement.
Scripture says,
“We take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ…” — 2 Corinthians 10:5
That means we don’t have to automatically believe the first interpretation that rises up.
Some thoughts are wounds speaking.
Some are fear protecting.
Some are old patterns trying to stay alive.
Today, when you feel the surge — pause.
Instead of rehearsing the story,
ask:
Is this fact…
or is this assumption?
Truth calms.
Assumption accelerates.
Interrupt the narrative.
Invite clarity.
Let truth replace reaction.
You might discover that peace was available long before the story began
