Dare 27

Choose Response Over Reaction
There’s a split second
between what happens
and what we say.
Most of us miss it.
A tone shifts.
A comment lands wrong.
A correction stings.
And before we even realize it —
we’re reacting.
But reaction is fast.
Response is formed.

Scripture gently reminds us:
“Be quick to listen, slow to speak…” — James 1:19
Slow doesn’t mean passive.
It means anchored.

Today, when tension rises,
take three breaths before you speak.
Not dramatic breaths.
Not spiritual ones.
Just enough space
for your nervous system to settle
and your spirit to lead.
Impulse wants relief.
Wisdom wants clarity.
Three breaths can separate you
from words you’ll later wish you hadn’t said.

A measured response doesn’t weaken you.
It strengthens the moment.
Clarity replaces impulse
when we give it space.
And peace is often protected
by the pause…
