Dare 35

Become Poor in Spirit
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” — Matthew 5:3
Today’s invitation is not dramatic.
It is quiet.
It is humbling.
And it is powerful.

To be “poor in spirit” does not mean weak.
It means aware of your need.
There is a difference between appearing strong and being anchored.

Pride works hard to appear secure.
Humility rests.
Pride defends.
Humility receives.
The Kingdom of Heaven does not open to the impressive.
It opens to the dependent.

When we insist on being self-sufficient — spiritually, emotionally, relationally — we subtly close the door to divine strength. We exhaust ourselves trying to sustain what was never meant to be self-generated.
But when we admit,
“Lord, I need You in this moment,”
something shifts.
Space opens.
And in that space… joy begins to rise.
Not hype.
Not denial.
Not forced positivity.
Joy that feels like steadiness.
Joy that feels like internal fire regulated instead of frantic.
Joy that feels like strength without striving.

Scripture says,
“The joy of the Lord is your strength.” — Nehemiah 8:10
That strength doesn’t come from proving yourself.
It comes from bowing your heart.
There is a reason mature grain bends low when it is full.
Fullness does not stand rigid.
It bows.

Today’s dare is simple:
Before you defend your strength — admit your need.
Before you explain yourself — invite God in.
Before you perform — pause.
Let humility make room.
The Kingdom belongs to the honest.
One surrendered moment at a time.
